I’m a WP developer looking for an event solution for a client. This client has a single-day event with classes at multiple times, and attendees need the freedom to select which class they want in each time slot. Each classroom has a different capacity. So, for example, at 1pm, an attendee could choose either Class A (55 max attendees) or Class B (100 max attendees). If Class A is fully booked, that option is “greyed out”/no longer available. Is this schedule/capacity functionality something that Event Espresso can handle easily? And, if not easily, what would be required to make this happen? (e.g., is it something that would be best left to Event Espresso developers?) Thanks so much! – Evan |
Hi Evan, Thank you for considering Event Espresso. It depends a little on how you want the registrations to work, but Event Espresso 4 can handle your requirements. To explain a little, within EE4 each event can have multiple ‘datetimes’, each of these datetimes can have tickets assigned to them, both the datetimes and the tickets have individual ‘limits’. So you could create a 1pm datetime, with 2 tickets assigned to that datetime, Class A ticket and Class B ticket, you then set a limit on each ticket that would be the max attendees for that ticket. So here is an example of how that would look within Event Editor :- http://take.ms/2HHSa You can both tickets are assigned to the datetime. The event would look like this :- http://take.ms/ft10M Allowing you to register onto either on of those datetimes, no if I register for 55 tickets for Class A (so it sells out) that ticket will no longer be available, like this :- http://take.ms/nv4AK Allowing only Class B to be registered onto. Is that what you are looking for? |

Thanks for the reply! That’s helpful, but I don’t think it’s quite what I need. Essentially, I’m trying to sell a single ticket to a day-long event, then offer a schedule for that day, with classes/workshops that have varying capacities. It looks like, this way, I would essentially need to sell 6 or so tickets to the single event to get to that functionality. Is that right? EE seems really great, so I just want to make sure it actually won’t work for this purpose before I rule it out. Thanks again! |
Yes that’s correct. The events in EE are all based around tickets and datetimes. Another way to set this up would be to set a single required ticket that would grant admission to the event, all users must register onto this ticket, then create the datetimes and tickets in the same way above only all the classes would be free. Users must select the paid ticket to register onto the ‘free’ events (classes). The basic functionality would be the same throughout EE in that the user will need to select the ticket to add a registration for that class. I’m not sure how you would monitor attendee limits if the user did not need to select the class? You could try test driving Event Espresso to see if you can setup an event to suit your needs if you prefer? (Although we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have) You can do this by registering here: |

Oh, that sounds like it would work – the required ticket with the free ticket options. Thanks for that idea! I’ll do the test drive to be sure. I appreciate your help! |
No problem at all 🙂 If you do have any further questions just let me know. |

I’m back – having trouble figuring this out. It’s not clear to me how to create a main (required) event with multiple times beneath it. Are there EE tutorials you can point me toward? I’m wondering if this is lacking one level of nesting from what I need. Can you clarify – will the method you described above allow Main Ticket (required) ($100) ? Apologies for my struggle/confusion – just want to make sure I’m understanding what’s possible and what isn’t. Thanks! |

Hi, No we don’t have that depth, but why not use: Main Ticket (required) |
|
Registrants are only allowed (and are required) to choose a workshop for each time slot. With this set up, it doesn’t seem possible to write the functionality that if they choose 9am Ticket A, they’re restricted from choosing 9am Ticket B. Thanks for bearing with my questions. I suppose I need to accept that EE won’t work for me on this project after all. So close, but just missing that big piece I really need. |

Hi, Yep it sounds like we have missed the mark slightly for your specific requirements. I had a chat with Tony and the only thing that we can think of would be a custom jQuery solution to disable one option if another is selected. |
