I searched the forums and found this has happened with others.

– I trashed old, abandoned registrations.
– I went into Maintenance and ran “Reset Ticket and Datetime Reserved Counts”
– I changed the event Status from ‘Sold Out’ to ‘Published’ and then re-published the event.
– I hard refreshed the event page.

This is our event page:
https://duluthfolkschool.com/events/swedish-folk-painting-fantastical-kurbits-feb-2022/

There are six spots in this class, and four have been sold. The other two open seats are unavailable for anyone to register for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan French

Hi there,

Ok, so a couple of parts stand out.

First, you should never have more ‘sold’ registration than you have actual registrations. ‘Sold’ should be a count of the number of Approved registrations, you should not have more sold registrations than you have actual registrations.

Yours shows 6 sold with 5 registrations (regs).

You mentioned you have 4 sold registrations, so the additional reg count is pending payment (or some other status)?

If you click on the icon for the datetime what do you see?

Right now, because your sold count is at 6 your event is sold out and that value will need to either be manually updated (there’s no UI to do so as it’s not expected to be out, it’s expected to be an active count of Approved registrations, not a value that is manually updated), or the Limit and Qty field will need to be increased for the additional spaces.

Sorry – I see that there’s a piece of the puzzle I didn’t share.

Here, you can see the actual number of paid registrations:

The event shows up as Sold Out, even though there are only four registrations sold, and six total that were available.

Here’s what that page shows:

Ok, so I checked on your site and notice you are using PayPal Standard and I think that is the cause of this issue.

In short with PayPal Standard, they send a request to your site to say the payment has been made (IPN) AND redirect the user back to the site with details of the payment at the same time. If both of the IPN and the User arrive at the site at the same time it can sue the Sold count to be incremented twice.

We deprecated PayPal Standard a while because of this and how unreliable the IPN’s can be (some taking seconds, others taking hours and a few taking days!) in favour of PayPal Express. To (hopefully) prevent this issue moving forward I recommend you switch to using PayPal Express, you’ll need different credentials from your PayPal account but don’t need anything special on your account for it:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/paypal-express-payment-gateway/#locate

For the issue on the current event you can either increase the number of spaces available by 2 (EE will still show 6 as sold but now there will be ‘8’ places available total, which is really actually 6).

Or if you can send over login and FTP credentials I can manually update the values within the database to fix the above on that event.

Oh – interesting! Thanks for checking into this. I didn’t realize we were using an outmoded version of the Paypal gateway. I’ll work on getting that updated.

I can take care of the count for the particular class in question.

Thanks for your help!

Follow up question – I am not finding an Event Espresso PayPal plugin, in my list of plugins:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/XftWxcY5c112VtAy9

I’ve downloaded “PayPal Express Checkout Smart Payment Buttons (with Venmo) v1.0.8.p” and am ready to install it, but I’d like to also remove the problem plugin before I do so.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Oh wait – I’m just now following the link you shared, and can see what you’re talking about. Sorry for the trouble.

Just to confirm here, you dont ‘need’ the PayPal Smart Buttons payment method, although you can use it if you prefer.

PayPal Express is included within Event Espresso core.

Event Espresso -> Payment Methods -> PayPal Express.

Enable it and add the credentials from above. Then you’ll have both PayPal Standard and Express enabled and shown on checkout.

To remove Stadard just disable it in the above section.

Right – thank you. Once I actually read through and followed the instructions in the link you provided, I figured it out.

Thanks for your help!
