A customer registering for an event entered their “https://..” website url into a url field on our registration checkout form and received the following error: “An error has occurred: Business Website (optional): That URL seems to be broken. Please enter a valid URL”. How do we fix? The website url is valid. Is this because it is an HTTPS site?

Hi,

I don’t think that error would be caused by having an https site. May I ask can you post a link to the event in question so we can take a look at the URL field’s source?

Sure, the event is: http://millburnshorthillschamber.org/events/benihana/, I hope that helps. I believe the URL field displays on checkout. The person registering was a “non-member”.

Hi Alan,

I tested a registration and input a URL in the above field, that worked without any issue.

Do you know what the user input into the field?

Yes, they entered “https://www.njadvancemedia.com/”. Can you tell me how I can test registrations? I am new to event espresso. Thanks!

Hi,

I did a little checking about that URL and it appears that site does not allow another site to do a GET request to verify it’s a real site. For the sake of comparison, here’s what a GET request to eventespresso.com looks like:

https://slack-files.com/T02SY781D-FC1QE43V0-af11f21882

and here’s what happens if I try a GET request to the njadvancemedia site:

https://slack-files.com/T02SY781D-FC135Q7PA-f39d8aa942

Probably the way forward for you will be to change the question type for the URL field to “Text”. The form will no longer try to validate that field but you’ll no longer get errors like that one.

Can you tell me how I can test registrations?

You pretend like you’re going to sign up for an event. So basically go to the page with the event information, select a ticket, then fill out & submit the form. You can trash the registration later in order to keep the attendee list accurate.

Thanks Josh! I changed the field type from a URL to a TEXT field. Thanks again for all of your help.
