Hi,

My adult education client would like their classes for a semester to still be visible, even after the registration period has ended.

So for example, if “Algebra” is offered this Fall, when I adjusted the Registration period end date, the class description disappeared (which makes sense in many cases).

If the registration period is kept ‘open,’ the class description is visible, but people can still register.( As there is not a big demand for Algebra, the class is never filled to the maximum number of participants 😉 )

However, is there a way to keep the class description visible, but not allow registrations? This way students can plan for future classes they want to take.

thanks in advance for your great support, EE has made a big difference for these folks, Julia

HI dalcevents,

How are you today?

Have you tried using a modified event list shortcode to display expired events? https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#event-list

We’re very glad they are happy with Event Espresso.

Hi Julia,

What you can do is create a page that will list out all of the events (open or closed).

You can use a shortcode like this:

[EVENT_LIST show_expired=true]

Please note that [EVENT_LIST] cannot be used as a replacement for [ESPRESSO_EVENTS]. So if the page that displays the list of events in using [ESPRESSO_EVENTS], it’s best to set up another page to show the list of events.

Thank you. My classes are arranged by category. So, I ended up using [EVENT_LIST event_category_id=”cat_name” show_expired=true] and that does the trick.

My question is now, what is the difference between EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY and EVENT_LIST event_category_id=”cat name”] ?
I ask because the EVENT_LIST shortcode worked with the
“show_expired=true” qualifier, but the EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY shortcode did not.
I have initially set up EE for this school using separate pages with the EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY shortcode.

Anyway, as I am an inquiring type, I thought I would ask before I make the change to all my class pages site-wide. But, believe me, I am thrilled to be able to solve this problem!

best, J

Hi,

EVENT_LIST is more flexible than EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY, it has more parameters that can be used – https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables

EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY will pretty much just list events associated with that category, whereas EVENT_LIST can be sorted, filtered etc.
