Hello.
I have a test event with few ticket selectors. when I select a ticket with any quantity and add to event cart, the cart shows the correct information. On the event cart, when i click on “return to event list”, the quantity for the events I just selected go to 0 (but still on the cart).

Shouldn’t the qty reflect what I entered (same as the quantity in the cart)?
If add more, it adds to the cart, going back to event list, still shows quantity 0.

because it is showing multiple tickets users might think that they have NOT selected any of the tickets. they try again and end up with dupes.

I can also see why 0 is displayed when it goes back…because if you click view event cart, it will assume it is an new purchase and add it to the cart. Maybe a non-changeable field next to QTY shows the amount you currently have of that ticket in the cart.

Is there a way to show what is in the cart for what is being displayed on the event list?

thank you.

On the event cart, when i click on “return to event list”, the quantity for the events I just selected go to 0 (but still on the cart).

That’s expected behaviour as they have added their ticket section to the cart and may add more.

Shouldn’t the qty reflect what I entered (same as the quantity in the cart)?

No, because then if you wanted to add more you’d be doubling the selected ticket qty by default.

Let’s say you have 2 or more ticket types within the event, they select 4 of one ticket type and return to the event list, they then decided they want to add 3 of the other ticket type. If we default to 4 on ticket type 1, they’ll add another 4 tickets of that type, plus the 3 of ticket type 2.

If add more, it adds to the cart, going back to event list, still shows quantity 0.

That’s correct.

I can also see why 0 is displayed when it goes back…because if you click view event cart, it will assume it is an new purchase and add it to the cart.

By new purchase do you mean another ticket selection? Every time you select tickets it will add them to the cart.

Maybe a non-changeable field next to QTY shows the amount you currently have of that ticket in the cart.

There are a few arguments against doing this:

1. It increases the queries used to generate the ticket selector as you need to check the cart for every ticket.

2. Its effectively duplicate data.

For the majority of use cases, the user will have just added the ticket to the cart, if they return to the event list after adding X number of tickets do they really need the number of a specific ticket they just added to be displayed?

In your post you are suggesting the ticket selector should show the currenty qty of selected tickets in the QTY field when they return to the event list, but that is the opposite of most checkout experiences.

Using say Amazon as an example, if you add an item to the cart then return to that item, clicking to add the item to the cart…. add’s another of that item to the cart. It doesn’t show the current qty of items and then ignores the new selection because it matches the current qty and there’s a reason for that, it makes assumptions of what the user is doing and tries to best guess.

Is there a way to show what is in the cart for what is being displayed on the event list?

Not in the way you are requesting, but you could use the Mini Cart Widget and display that on the event list page in a sidebar, would that work for you?
