Event post displaying text as 'inactive' – even though the event is active

get the following message at the bottom of my event post:
This event has expired or is no longer available.

The event IS active and if the user ignores this remark, they can register. BUT, I do not want this to be displayed as it confuses possible registrants and do not understand why it is being displayed when the event is “OPEN” and active.
