Hi guys,

I’ve just upgraded to EE4 Personal Edition. When I go to create an event the /wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_events fails to load (or rather, loads as a blank page). Earlier I’d received a memory error so I included this in my wp-config file: define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’96M’ );
Any ideas?

Hi,

You could try upping the memory even more, such as 128M or 256M, though 96 should be more than enough.

I would recommend turning on your WP DEBUG to see if any errors messages are appearing that can be used to narrow down the issue. http://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG

Hi Dean, thanks for your help. I just tried 256M and it worked a treat…
96 didn’t seem to cut it… Not sure if that’s unique to my setup but I’m hoping the extra RAM won’t have a detrimental effect on my VPS ?_?

Hi,

It shouldn’t but I would refer to your host regarding that to find out your current actual usage plus your memory cap (they will limit it on a VPS).

Are you running other services/site on your VPS or just the one with EE installed?

If you run only that site on the VPS then your are now actually using your VPS a little more effectively as you are using the RAM allocated to your VPS for your site. There are other services that come into play, but upping the PHP memory limit (which is what WP_MEMORY_LIMIT raises) allows you to use more of your servers RAM where it is needed.

256MB is pretty high although it also depends if you have a lot of data being pulled from the database, do you have a large number of events/registrations?

I’m running maybe 15 sites on the VPS. Mostly WordPress but not all, including an instance of EE3.
This EE4 installation is new so there are no events at all right now. I just couldn’t load the New Event page without upping the RAM. Maybe I should back it off a little…

I’d still maybe get in touch with the host or check your server stats, just to see what sort of memory usage is going on and whether you need to increase, lower, etc.
