Hi, I just tried testing the event import with the events.csv example that is provided. I got this on upload:

File uploaded successfully. – events.csv

Upload file has been deleted.
Added a total of 12 events to the database.

Two problems.

1. There was only 1 event on the CSV.
2. No events were actually imported, not even the one.

I’m using EE Version 3.1.35.P

I just tried Version 3.1.36.A and got this:

File uploaded successfully. – events.csv

Upload file has been deleted.
Added a total of 2 events to the database.
Sorry, there was a security error and your event was not saved.

So this is better, since despite there only being one event and security error (?) I got the successful event import. Weird stuff…

One last issue, I tried modifying the address, identifier and title of the sample csv event and uploading again to see if it would take, but it doesn’t 🙁 It should as long as the event_identifiers are unique, no?

Sorry about all the posts, this is the last step in our clients workflow and we want to get through it. I just read this:

The file name should be events.csv in order for it to work

So I’ll try and test with this in mind. One thing I dont get is whats the point of the address info in the csv file? Does this create a venue for you? What do you do if you client wants to use the Venue system AND only import using CSV for events? We have a pretty customized system which relies on finding avaialable venues first, then checking which events are associated with the Venue ID.

Hi Deborah,

To your last question about addresses, the current importer doesn’t support the venue manager. It was built to work with the address entry (it hasn’t been updated to support the venue manager yet).

With the other issues you’re seeing with the importer: The date columns in the CSV can get re-formatted by some spreadsheet applications. This will prevent the import from working.

If you’d like, someone from support can take a look at the file you’re trying to import. If that works for you please attach the file to an email and send it to support @ eventespresso.com.

It doesn’t create a venue for you. If you have venues turned off, then it uses the address field in the event details, which is where the importer puts the address info from the csv.
You might want to try using the includes/event-management/csv_import.php and events.csv files from the 3.1.36-BETA version of EE available in the pre-release channel. That’s one of the things that we worked on improving in 3.1.36, and you should be able to just swap those two files from the BETA into your 3.1.35.1.P installation. It does add a couple of extra fields, so make sure you look at the events.csv template in the BETA.

Hi guys,

I realize it was primarily the name events.csv that was tripping me up. The import works now (using 3.1.36A), I just have to teach the client to remember to go into the event it’s imported and select the appropriate venue that we have pre-populated. That’s probably good enough for now, but would love to see the venues integrated into the importer (assuming the id’s are already valid and created in the system).

I just joined the pre-release channel so I can get access to the BETA. Thanks!

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for the feedback and I’ve added your +1 to the venues in the importer idea.
