Please help me to figure out why recurring events are not saving. I receive the following error in my cgi error log:

20130923T174343: http://www.originministries.org/index.php
WordPress database error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘) AND e.event_status = ‘D’ GROUP BY e.id ORDER BY date(start_date),id LIMIT’ at line 1 for query SELECT e.*, ese.start_time, ese.end_time, p.event_cost , c.category_name, c.category_desc, c.display_desc, c.category_identifier, v.name venue_name, v.address venue_address, v.city venue_city, v.state venue_state, v.zip venue_zip, v.country venue_co

Thanks,

Hi there,

When you create a recurring event series, are the dates set to be manually created or automatic?

Automatic.

Hi again,

The error in the log is related to a query from the event_list.php template, it may not be related to the recurring events not saving. Can you turn on WP_DEBUG by editing the wp-config.php file to see if other error messages display when you try to save a recurring event series?

Hello Josh, Please direct me to more specific instructions. I am a novice at this. Thanks, -Juan

Sure thing.

You can set wp_debug to true by editing the wp-config.php file.
You can use an [FTP client][1] and [a text editor][2] to access change this line to the site’s wp-config.php file:
define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);
[1]: http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients
[2]: http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files#Acceptable_External_Editors

Here are some more specific instructions from the WordPress Codex:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Debug

http://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

While you are checking on this you can also try ruling out a plugin or theme conflict:
1) A theme conflict. You can rule this out by temporarily switching to the default WordPress theme.
2) A plugin conflict. You can rule this out by temporarily deactivating any other installed WordPress plugins.

After adjusting to: (‘WP_DEBUG’, true), the event still does not save but now I get the following message on top of the page when attempting to save a recurring event:

Notice: wpdb::escape is deprecated since version 3.6! Use wpdb::prepare() or esc_sql() instead.
Notice: Undefined index: recurrence_regis_date_increment in /xx/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/includes/event-management/insert_event.php on line 58 Notice: Undefined variable: last_event_id in /xx/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/includes/event-management/insert_event.php on line 572

Hi there,

While the deprecated usage of wpdb:escape will be updated in the next version of the REM add-on, the events should still save.

Can you send log in credentials so we can investigate further? If that is possible, please send WordPress admin level log in credentials via the contact form on this page:

Hi Josh, I can see that you created some recurring events for testing but I can’t determine whether or not you’re finished. The test events are currently in draft mode with no visible way of changing that status. Is there anything I should be doing? What am I missing?

You can delete the test events by opening one up in event editor and clicking the link that says “Delete all events in this series”. The events I set up saved as expected, so I am not sure why it’s not working for you.

I did leave those there and emailed a reply with an idea to compare the content of the events that you are trying to save with the test events to see if there were any differences. Since I do not have a way to see what you are entering for the un-posted events I recommend you try to compare the two for differences to help narrow the issue down.
