Event Espresso Members and completed PayPal transactions still set as incomplete

Hi,

Registered members on my site pay for events using PayPal Standard and I’ve found that if their registered account email address is different to the PayPal address they have paid with, the payment will always be listed as “Incomplete” even after they have successfully paid. Very frustrating as I now have to manually approve the payments so the customers can get their tickets. Has anyone else come across this issue and how can I fix it? I’m running the latest version of Event Espresso (3.1.29).

Cheers

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. I am going to test this on my test server, but I wanted to clarify something. What are you meaning when you say “their registered account eamil address”? Are you referring to the email address they use to register for the event, or the one used for registering to access your site?

I had this same problem with my last two events. But I didn’t know what was causing it. I’ll echo the very frustrating part about having to manually check to see if registrants really had paid even though EE listed them as incomplete.

@ijorgensen and S J Nowers,

Are there any payments going through as complete? It sounds like you’re suggesting that there is a correlation between the email address that is sent from the registration form to PayPal, whether it matches the PayPal address, and whether or not a payment a will go through.

Whenever I test the PayPal IPN gateway, the email addresses I use to register for the events and the email address I use to log in at PayPal do not match, and the payments complete. I would suggest working through through the checklist here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/troubleshooting-event-espresso/#gateways

An additional item that should be checked is whether there are any plugins installed that may be blocking the PayPal IPN. An example is the Bad Behavior plugin, if you use that plugin to block communication from other sites, you can set it to allow communication from PayPal’s IP addresses:

If a registered member (either through WP or via the booking system) has an email like member@example.com but then pay on PayPal with the address member.name@example2.com, after the PayPal payment has accepted and cleared, when being referred back to my website it will then say that the payment is “Incomplete”, at which point said member sends me an unhappy email saying that they can’t download their ticket and that the payment hasn’t completed straight away.

I’m also using the EE plugins Ticketing (v2.0.9) and Members Addon (v1.9.6) too.

I’ll get my web dude to follow the checklist just to be sure.
