Event Espresso Lite 3.1.37.5.L blocking updates?

Hi, wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I have a site with Event Espresso Lite activated. Every time I have tried to update any plugin or theme I got this error:
error setting certificate verify locations: CAfile: /home/ptgaaorg/public_html/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-free/gateways/cacert.pem CApath: none

When I deactivated Event Espresso I could run updates again.

You can fix the issue you’re seeing by adding the following code to your theme’s functions.php file:
