Hi there,

Can you add some details on what is happening here, please?

You’ve mentioned Event Espresso is breaking the site, but that’s a very broad term.

What is happening to the site?

Are you 100% sure Event Espresso is the cause? If so, how?

Yes, I’m sure. Sorry. The error logs all show Event Espresso as the culprit. Here is the error line, repeated over and over:
[19-Nov-2022 13:31:40 UTC] PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/cprdavec/public_html/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Config.core.php on line 281

Help please!

That’s a PHP Warning, warnings do not stop the site from working.

That error means the config that should be returned from the database, are not being returned from the database at all (which isn’t expected).

Viewing your domain it shows a Database connection error, which would also tie into the reason Event Espresso is not able to get the configs from the database.

Have you checked your control panel to see if you have maxed out your resources? Or if the server is currently under heavy load?

What type of hosting do you have?

I assume you have FTP access? I can walk you through how to de-activate Event Espresso manually to see if the site jumps back online… however, Event Espresso may be showing you a symptom of the issue rather than being the cause.

I deleted Yoast, and the site came back up. This morning, the site is down again. I don’t know what to do.

So, right now, it sounds like the server is under load and it can’t handle it. De-activating/deleting plugins can/may help, but it’s basically a symptom of the problem rather than the actual cause.

The above can happen for many many many different reasons.

Have you contacted your host regarding the issues? They should be able to see where the load is coming from and give you more specific advice than I can.

Thank you, Tony. Yes, I’ve been in touch with the host, and they now admit to a mysql server issue on their end. I don’t know more than that, probably because I don’t know how to check resources or load in the cpanel. I also am not sure whaty you mean about the “type of hosting” you refer to. If there is a better type available than the shared hosting I have, maybe I should move to that ASAP. I thank you immensely for looking into this for me.

Thank you, Tony. Yes, I’ve been in touch with the host, and they now admit to a mysql server issue on their end.

That ties into the issues you are having so far and the warning posted above.

The host needs to fix the issue with MySQL and then we can check more into this if needed.

I also am not sure whaty you mean about the “type of hosting” you refer to. If there is a better type available than the shared hosting I have…

You answered that question in your next sentence, so you have ‘shared hosting’, which is fine by as the name suggests means that multiple users all share the resources on the server.

So let’s give a quick example of 1 server hosting 50 users (likely many more) and each user only hosting a single site (again, likely more). That mans all 50 sites are sharing the resources between them, which is generally fine, it’s the cheapest hosting because of the number of people sharing said server.

BUT… let’s say user number 23 has an issue with the site, a simple example is to say the site is being attacked and bombarded with requests. That’s going to hit the server and increase the load… which then affects EVERY site because they are all sharing.

It’s not as simple as the above, but it gives you a general idea.

No, there are multiple different types of hosting available and its easy to say ‘just switch to a different hosting type’ but until you know the actual issue here you may just run into the same problem. Right now it seems your host has an issue on their end that they need to fix, moving may well fix the issue but you’ll need a database backup to do so (which you would get from their MySQL server… which they are having problems with) soooo it’s a bit of a catch 22 unless you have recent back all ready to go.

Thank you, Tony. Last time I restored from backup, all the paths changed. It was quite a mess. I’ll wait until the server gets sorted and then see what has to happen next. Thanks again for your help.
