Event Espresso crashing Site multiple messages to Drop Tables

Seeing problems with EE4 requesting that we drop tables. We have added the code recommended but it brings the site down to a barely functional crawl.

this is not a large site, and we are not running a bloated data table. It’s clean and only using EE4 as far as I can see. (similar to problem mentioned in this thread https://eventespresso.com/topic/database-table-errors/ )

when the plugin is activated (currently deactivated) we get messages like the following (image)

Data table error message

A week ago when these first popped up, we attempted to dismiss them as they seemed to be a false positive.

This time (today) we added the code to wp-config. It did not help.

Similarly, unable to run the EE plugin up date. currently on 4.9.21, same errors seems to prevent us from updating to 4.9.22.

Have spent an hour working through this with Godaddy managed wordpress support as well already, just in case they could see something on their end. They had us deactivate jetpack as they have witnessed some compatability issues between jetpack and wp 4.7 (go figure) πŸ™‚

What can/should we do next? We do have a support license still active until March.

You’ll need to remove the code that you added to wp-config.php. The instructions say to only add that code if a database backup had been restored to, which it sounds like is not what happened here. Once the wp-config.php file is back to what it was before, you can deactivate 4.9.21, then delete the plugin. After that, you can download and install 4.9.22.

removed define( 'EE_DROP_BAD_TABLES', TRUE ); and uploaded wp config back up again.

After removing it, all the error messages returned. πŸ™

What do I do next? πŸ™‚

Will deleting the plugin, delete important table information, events, tickets, attendees orders and things?

No.

do I also need to delete and reinstall the addons:
– eea Stripe Gateway
– espresso calendar

It depends on whether they’re up to date or not. The Stripe add-on current version is v1.0.14.p. The Calendar add-on current version is v3.2.7.p.

– decaf
– core reg

Those are actually not add-ons. If you have core reg activated, then you can remove the decaf plugin from your site. Decaf cannot be run alongside core reg.

No deleting the plugin will not remove the database from the database, however we always advise creating a database backup if you don’t already have one, just to be safe.

You can use a plugin such as BackupWordPress to backup the database if you do not already have one.

No you do not need to re-install the add-ons.

Make sure you have removed define( 'EE_DROP_BAD_TABLES', TRUE ); from wp-config.php and also de-activate and delete ‘Event Espresso Decaf’ from the site. It is basically a less feature rich version of Event Espresso Regular.

If you have regular you do not need decaf.

I have the new plugin installed. forgot how sssslllllloooooowwwww deleting plugins from ftp could be. (getting spoiled these last few years working in wp)

The error messages showed back up right after words.

I methodically went through clicking the dismiss one for each. (a week ago when they first showed up, I did this and they didn’t come back until now.)

Hoping this was just a formality to make them go away one last time?

This took about 4 hours of work all said and told, and if it requires this much again for an EE upgrade, …. ugh

Can you I ask why you didn’t just delete the plugin through the plugins menu?

4 reasons

1st the instructions above were to delete the plugin, not deactivate and delete

2nd none of the functions inside wordpress have worked well today while this error was going on, plugin updates, theme updates etc. Every attempt to work in wordpress brings the sight to a grinding hault

3rd I have used Event Espresso since it first launched and remember the days when updates could only be done manually for EE, even when the rest of WP plugins had been working on automated updates for a year or two. πŸ™‚ Thought this might be a throw back.

4th trying to avoid any complications with Nonce, just in case. Basically, trying to handle the thing with kids gloves because it has been so completely unstable to day.

We generally recommend using the WP plugins page, but if you’re having troubles with the WP plugins page, FTP is another option.

As do I!

lol, not my first rodeo. Been doing this wp stuff for 10 years. Whatever was breaking with this configuration this week, it was not typical. πŸ™‚

thanks for the help, please consider this one resolved. Hopefully, it does not recur again next week, but will create a new thread if it does. πŸ™‚
