Event Espresso Crashes Site When Activated

I have two WordPress servers on Vultr. I moved both of my sites over from another host with All-In-One WP Migration.

One site leiag.org runs flawlessly.

The other site ldconsultingllc.com does not. When I activate event espresso the site crashes and I get timeout errors etc

some things I have tried:
I have deactivated every plugin and the site runs fast except for the fact there are no plugins features.
I then activate EE and it crashes the site.
I saw in the error log lots of ‘deprecated’ errors so
I have downgraded PHP from 8.0 to 7.2. no effect. it still crashes when I activate EE

I don’t understand why it works so well on one site and not on this one.
Any thoughts?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry to hear about your issue.

It looks like there are memory issues.

Memory problems are cumulative with each plugin and theme contributing to it.

You may decide to change the plugin combinations you are using.

Such types of problems arise because the PHP Memory Limit of your Host is pretty less than what the process requires for performing it’s functions. In such a case you would need to directly increase the PHP Memory Limit if you’ve access to the PHP.ini file.

If you don’t want to mess with the PHP.ini file, then you can go for this method.

In this you won’t be needing to create any extra file in your Directory.

Just Adding following code in your ‘wp-config.php’ file would increase your PHP Memory Limit to 512 MB.

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '512M');

Please note, this setting may not work if your host does not allow for increasing the PHP memory limit–in that event, contact your host to increase the PHP memory limit. Also, note that many hosts set the PHP limit at 8MB.

okay I changed the memory limit to 512M and I am still getting stuck:

Could you please edit wp-config.php file and

Replace

define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false);

with this:

ini_set(‘log_errors’,’On’);

ini_set(‘display_errors’,’Off’);

ini_set(‘error_reporting’, E_ALL );

define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false);

define(‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true);

define(‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, false);

Hi there,

The deprecated notices you posted above means you are likely running PHP8 on the server, PHP8 has a lot of changes and throws a lot of deprecated notices for code that ‘was’ perfectly valid in PHP7.

I recommend asking your host to switch to PHP7 on your site and working with that currently, many plugins aren’t fully compatible with all of the changes for PHP8 and I know that the DOMPDF library we use to generate PDF’s usually throws a fatal error with it so it may causes you issues.
