We are about to launch an event business and I want to use Event Espresso but we MUST have affiliate functionality since this will be a key to our promotional strategy. On your old forum one of your support staff said that Event Espresso 3.2 will have affiliate capability. However, that was over a month ago and I have not seen a mention of version 3.2 on your new website. I also saw a listing for Affiliate Manager Integration under your Sponsor New Features section. So my questions are:
We launch the business next month and if the new version isn’t available with the affiliate addon we’ll have to find a different solution (most likely Eventbrite). |
Simple affiliate features will ship with the release of Event Espresso 3.2. While I do not have a date for the release of 3.2, I can share with you a few tips on how you might get affiliate functionality working with the current version of Event Espresso. Since you mentioned Eventbrite, you might look into using ReferralCandy for affiliate tracking (Eventbrite has ReferralCandy integration). After setting up an account with ReferralCandy, you can copy their JavaScript tracking code into the template that handles the payment confirmation page. Then configure the events to send a copy of the registration summary to the ReferralCandy email address by using the Alternate (optional) Email Address feature. Of course, there are other affiliate programs out there, and many of these have a similar system where you would add their tracking code to the payment confirmation page template. |

Josh, Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll check out ReferralCandy. I hadn’t seen that work around mentioned on the forum before. You mentioned “simple affiliate features” will be in 3.2. Can you elaborate on that or do we have to wait for the official launch to learn more? What you call simple may work for me. |
There will be limited affiliate functionality with the initial release of EventEspresso (i.e. the ability to add a tracking code to purchase success pages). If we can get what affiliate system you are using we can have a better idea if it will work or not. More robust implementation is in the roadmap for after 3.2 is released. |

I had planned to use the WPMUDev Affiliates Plugin but I have access to other affiliate management systems if they are easier to integrate into your system. |
I used that a very long time ago. As I recall, it required their Supporter plugin and integrated specifically into multisite/WPMU…is that still the case? Are you planning on using it on a multi-install of WordPress? |

Yes, I plan to use your plugin on a WPMU install. We will be hosting numerous events in one city for now but the plan is to expand to other cities after we prove the model here. So I assumed we could purchase an extended license for the plugin to run on additional sites within the WPMU network. FYI, the WPMU affiliate plugin can work without the Supporter(now Pro Sites) plugin and can run on a regular WordPress install. However, I am open to suggestions on a better way to accomplish what we are tying to do. If you know of another setup that has proven to work, please let me know. |
If you are going to use Event Espresso on a multisite, just be aware that it won’t support network activation and if there are any custom templates you’re using, those customizations will apply to all sites on the network (because it also isn’t built to support the blogs.dir for uploads). The only affiliate system we’ve done any amount of work with is WP Affiliate Platform but, ideally we’d like to make it so that you can plug any system into it, so we’re open. |
