Event doesn't update status automatically when sold out

We recently added the Wait List plugin. But when our event sold out, the wait list button didn’t appear. I found that if I manually set the event status to ‘sold out,’ the wait list button appears on the front end. Shouldn’t the event status change automatically, once all ticket options are sold out?

It should, but there are factors where it will not. For example if no datetime reg. limit was set the event will not be actually sold out. The tickets within the event could be sold out because their QTY limit was reached though.
