Event Day, Widget Date and Times Disappear, All Other Info Still Viewable

Hi guys,

Quick question regarding an event of ours that started this morning at 9:00am.

The event titled “The Beginner’s Guide to 3D Printing” is already underway today, and even though the widget settings are to “Do NOT, Show Expired Events,” the title still shows, but the dates and times do not.

I decided to change the widget settings to “YES, Show Expired Events,” and keep the 3 events visible. This resulted in the same thing: the Event still displays, but with no date and time information.

Even on the event date, we would like for the date and time to appear.

Why is this happening, that only “There are no upcoming dates for this event.” displays? And how can we continue to display the time and date information, after the event starts? I’ve already ruled out the option of turning “Show Expired Events” back on.

Thanks,

-B.

Hello,

The date and time is visible in the widget: http://cl.ly/image/1A10271P0k2G

I’ve also checked the event page and the information appears there under the ticket selector.

Is there another location that I should be looking?

Hi Lorenzo,
After discovering this situation this morning prior to the start time of the event, I went into the event and changed the ticket date/time to end after the event ending time. This may be why, by the time you went to view the event information, it had reappeared. It goes without saying that this is not an option, really. We do not want to leave “ticket sales” open — even if an event is free — until after the event simply in order to get the event time to remain in the widget until the event is over. Is EE coded in such a way to display an event and it’s date/time until the end of the event? It seems that this would already be a given for anyone using the plugin.

Hello,

You could also reduce the ticket quantity available so that it matches the current tickets sold. This will show a sold out message instead and should keep the date and time information active.

Hi Lorenzo,

I don’t really think this is an appropriate option as we do allow walk-ins for some of our events so we do not want people to think they cannot attend. We do not want to tell people the event is sold out. We simply want the Event information (date and time) to stay posted on the site until after event is completed. I’m quite certain there must be others who use EE that want this as well. If someone attending the event checks the web site that morning to confirm the time and location, they can’t get that information. It seems to me that this should be an essential feature of an event management application. Is this a widget issue? Does the widget belong to EventEspresso? Or, am I addressing my issue to the wrong provider?

Thanks for sharing that additional feedback. The widget is from Event Espresso. I think the issue is how “upcoming” is defined. Once an event has started, its not upcoming but would be started or ongoing.

I’ll share this discussion with the development team to see if we can add an option that accounts for events that have already started.
