Event checkout not working in Instagram browser

Expected:
When I go to checkout a event espresso event on my WordPress website in the Instagram browser, I should be able to successfully do so

Actualy:
When I go to checkout an event, I select the quantity, click next, and when it takes me to the Attendee Information page, it gives me an error of: “Nothing in your Event Queue. You need to select at least one event….”

When I attempt the same on Chrome Android, it works as expected. When I try to do it on Instagram in Android, it throws the error above.

Hi there,

It sounds like the Instagram browser doesn’t support PHP Sessions and the session data is getting lost. Have you tried reaching out to Instagram support about this issue?

Hi there,

The Instagram ‘browser’ isn’t really a browser in the same sense as others and doesn’t support the features you would expect it to.

However, on looking on your site linked to your key I’m getting the same nothing in your event queue error using my desktop.

There are 2 causes for that error, the first is sessions, if your browser doesn’t support sessions EE can’t link the request made to your registrations (that’s what Seth is referring to above).

The second (and is what your issue is for me currently) is caching. You can’t cache e-commerce requests like EE as each request is unique for each user and that’s the opposite of how caching works. Caching is basically sharing the same response from the server across multiple requests to reduce the load on the server (there’s more to it than that but I’m keeping this short).

So, when you tested this on Chrome Android, where you logged into the site in the browser? (Logged in users don’t get cached responses).

Thank you team! The cache exclusion on WPEngine was the issue and resolved the problem.
