Event attendance caps by promo code

I have an event with the following requirements:
Total attendance cap is 300
Of these, we are allowing 250 general admission tickets to be sold
Also, we will reserve 50 for VIP’s that are defined in 2 categories
1. Dignitaries (No charge) – 20 total
2. VIP discounts – 30 total

I need to be able to keep track of these 3 categories of attendees.

What I was thinking is using the promo codes to control access. But, for the general admission is there a way to default a promo code to the event (general admission) that can be then over ridden with the specific VIP code?

It would appear as though the Promo code functionality could do this but I just purchased EE4 and am still learning to use it.

Lastly, I was looking for a short code to insert into the event details page showing the number of tickets still available, but could not find it.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I can share feedback on some of the options that are currently available.

You can create a datetime which has a limit on the maximum number of attendees/registrants for an event. Then you can create different ticket with various quantities and assign those to the datetime.

Here is what will happen:

The ticket quantities will stop being available for sale once those quantities are reached. For example, you could allow 50 tickets for VIPs and once those are sold, then no others could be purchased.

Next, it is possible to to allow multiple discounts on an event but keep in mind that these discounts will be combined. That is, the newest discount would not replace the prior discount.

It is possible to show the remaining tickets via a sample code snippet. Have you used an SFTP / FTP client like Cyberduck or FileZilla?

Lorenzo, thanks for the feedback.

I was thinking about this solution but was curious about exactly how to setup the promo options. I kind of like the idea of a default promo (that is applied to all attendees) that will have a 0% discount, then another promofor the next VIP at 50% discount (can be added at checkout), then another at 100% discount). This way, I can set the total cap at 300, put a limit on the base promo at 250, then 30 at next level (50%), and limit last level at 20.

To be honest, I am unsure what you are referring to the “DateTime” with limits.

If I do what you are suggesting,i would need 3 different event pages. I can do this, but would rather control it with the PROMO code.

As for FTP client, I use FileZilla.

Lorenzo,if you have an example of what you are talking about, I would be most interested in seeing how it can be accomplished.

Hi, could you reply with all of the ticket options that will be available for the event along with the quantities?

Promo codes cannot target ticket options but they can target the entire event.

Total attendance cap: 300
Total NON-VIP registrations: 250
Total VIP: 30
Total Dignitary VIP: 20

That should do it.

The other way to do this is set up a ticket for each price option with each of those quantity limits.

Josh, I thought about this but wouldn’t this require either:
1. A separate event page for each ticket
2. OR trusting the user to select the correct ticket

i am not sure how we can ensure that each ticket is registered to the proper individual.

EE4 is a great tool, and there are a million and 1 variations of user requirements, but this particular scenario does not seem to be so far out of the ordinary.

I am sure we can come up with a viable solution.

Thanks for the help so far!

Hi there,

2. OR trusting the user to select the correct ticket

No and no.

So for 1, the ticket selector can be on the same page.
2. If you require that VIPs log in to select the VIP tickets, you can ensure that that only those that you’ve given a log in account, can only access the VIP tickets. If they can’t be trusted not to pass the log in to their friends, you can also set the Default Registration status to “Not Approved” as well.

Interesting, we will have to play with it to see what we can come up with.

Thanks for the help and assistance.
