Not sure how to debug this – I created a custom “Registration Approved” template and am trying to send a test email to verify the content. When I do, I get an error that says “An error has occurred: The test message was not sent”. There are no additional details and the server error log is empty. Site is hosted at WPEngine and all other email functions work fine. Any ideas??

Hi,

If you click the button to view a preview of the email does it also show an error or does it show a preview?

The preview does not display an error, but it is empty (no content displayed). I assume it is an issue with my message content but without any detailed error message I’m not sure how to debug. I do see that previous test emails (with the default message content) sent fine. Any advice?

Another observation – if I look at message activity and try to view a test message that was successfully sent, the message is not displayed (just a white screen). This is a message that used the default message content.

What you could do is copy the contents of the message into a text file, then reset the template to the default. Then re-add the customizations in parts (not all at once). After you add each part, save and preview. This will help narrow down what’s causing the error.

I can do that – but any idea why messages that previously sent OK (using default content) would not display from the Message Activity list? Seems like there is something going on that is not related to my content changes.

The previews may be affected by a JavaScript conflict, in which case you could troubleshoot by deactivating other plugins on the site and/or check the browser console for errors.

I’ve checked everything I can but still cannot send test emails or preview messages. There are no Javascript errors in the console. How can I get a more detailed message than just “an error occurred”?

OK I found the issue – apparently none of our events have active tickets. Might be a good idea to add some more verbose error messaging when sending test emails. I found this by hovering over the i icon in the Message Activity list. Thanks for your help.

You have events without tickets? There should be at least one ticket within an event. For example, if you add a new event, is there a default ticket listed in the ticket editor?
