I just noticed on our site that no emails are being sent out after a user registers for an event. If I scroll to the bottom of the event in the backend, and go to the email in the Notifiations meta box and edit one of the email types ‘Registration Not Approved’ for example and test send an email from there, that test email does get sent out. Any idea why the actual emails aren’t being delivered?

Hi there,

You can go to Event Espresso > Messages which will show the Messages Activity table. Can you check the statuses of the messages there?

I tried attaching a pic of the screen but couldn’t figure out how to do that so I will try my best to explain what I see..

Column Name Text
To No recipient
From (Is Blank)
Messenger Email
Message Type Registration Pending Payment
Context (Is Blank)
Modified December 19, 2016 8:35 am
Actions (Wrench icon, which says ‘Generate the message now.’ when I hover over it)

Can you go to edit the email message templates and make sure they don’t have blank fields?

The To field is blank. I’m assuming a shortcode goes in there, and if so which one?

It depends on the type of email. If the email is supposed to go to the registrant, then you put the [RECIPIENT_EMAIL] short code in the To: field.

If the email is for the admin, then you can put:
[CO_EMAIL].

I should have looked at more examples then just one earlier, now when i went to change them I do notice a couple of the admin emails are blank so will be fixing those.. But the registrants are all set, either with [RECIPIENT_EMAIL] or [PRIMARY_REGISTRANT_EMAIL] and still nothing is being sent out to either admin or registrants.

You can install the email logging plugin, then try sending a test message email, then check the log to see the error(s) captured there.

When I install and register for an event and check the WP Mail Log, nothing appears from Event Espresso, just from emails sent out from a different plugin which we have set up to send out together.

OK so if you deactivate that other plugin, do Event Espresso messages begin to send? You might also need to go to Event Espresso > Messages > Message Settings and set emails to send on same request.

The fact that when I use the ‘Send a test email to *:’ in the extra actions for the emails notifications in the events, and it sends out an email, doesn’t that rule out it being in conflict with another plugin?

No.

Would SMTP Mailer interfere with this?

Likely not, because test emails are delivered. Usually if it’s an issue with SMTP Mailer, it’s because SMTP creds aren’t valid, but if that’s the case, then no email gets sent.

I have deactivated all other plugins besides Event Espresso ones and that didn’t work, so I tried again with a default theme and that also still didn’t work.. Any other ideas what it might be?

Have you gone to Event Espresso > Messages > Message Settings and set emails to send on same request?

Thanks Josh!

I had not changed that and that was all it was.
