EE4 Waitlists – almost there?

Hi there,

The last update I could find about the waitlist functionality in EE4 is from July (https://eventespresso.com/topic/ee4-waitlist-functionality/).

Is there a new estimate?

If not, could you at least tell whether there is any hope to have it within January 2015?

I need to decide which version to use for my project, but at the moment neither is optimal. EE4 would overcome some EE3 limitations that gave me head aches last year, but the absence of waitlists is a show-stopper for me.

Any update is appreciated.
Cheers, Roberrto

Hi Roberrto,

Unfortunately, waitlists for Event Espresso 4 won’t be available for January 2015 as we are prepping some other add-ons for release.

Hi Roberrto,

Can you let me know what you’re looking for utility-wise in a waitlist feature?

The reason I ask is because in EE4, the events are displayed as custom post types, and they have a lot of hooks to allow for adding extensions. This allows for things like embedded contact forms. The contact forms can be made to appear automatically when an event sells out.

What this means is it’s possible to capture contact information in a sign up form automatically when an event sells out. Would something like this work for your project?

Lorenzo, thanks for your reply.

Josh, are you suggesting that with EE4 it would be possible to implement some form of waitlist feature with little effort, before the real feature is released?

The requirements I have for this feature are:
– one waitlist per ticket type
– registration in waitlist acquires all attendee information.
– when spot available, the administrator should be able to invite the attendee for payment with very little effort.

The way it was implemented in EE3 seemed fine. And actually I see only one thing that really prevents it in EE4: the ability to move attendees between ticket-types/events. If you have that, in combination with no-charge tickets/events for each ticket, you’re all set (still, no automatic overflow management, but that’s minor).

In a way, waitlist seems also similar to the approval mechanism.
However, now that I look carefully at it, in EE4 the approval mechanism can be controlled only per event, not per ticket. So then having the multi-ticket feature of EE4 wouldn’t help me much.
Perhaps my best chances are still with EE3 and multiple events (one per ticket-type).

What I still can’t find in either (unless I missed it in EE4) is the ability to set constraints on ticket types. For example: ticket A can only be sold in combination with ticket B.

Cheers, Roberto

Hi, the requirements that you shared aren’t currently available.

The workaround that Josh shared is to show an email collection form if an event becomes unavailable due to registrations closing. This would not capture any registration information through Event Espresso.

Instead it would use a contact form or an email marketing service to gather an email.
