It appears that EE4 is using the default template of my theme when creating a post for a new event (the one that the events>read more points to). Can I change to one of the other preset templates in my theme?… easily?

Hi there Darrell,

There are a few options for changing how content appears on various Event Espresso pages. There are some toggles in Wp-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Templates.

Other content can be hidden:

Another option is to create a new template based using an existing theme template:

I really do not want to create a template. It appears to me that EE4 pulls the default template out to create the (espresso_events=luncheon-july-2014) page. If it is using the default blog template, I am getting a blogging/posting panel on the side of the page. All I want to do is specify one of the other predetermined templates to use, one that only has header so your detail page is not preloaded with irrelevant information.

This is one option: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/hide-certain-elements-event-espresso-pages-using-css/

Another is to use a plugin like this and select a page layout for each of your events: http://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-page-template/

Because the post type on the single page is espresso_events, WordPress first looks for a template file single-espresso_events.php in your theme’s template folder. If it cannot find it, it falls back to single.php in your theme’s folder.
What you really should do is use the EE4 child theme, but change it so that it’s a child of whatever theme you are running now. Check out the screencast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGw2jGZ9kr8
