EE4 sends out double emails

Hi all,

Earlier this week I already posted about a small issue which worked out fine. We have bought a EE license in the meanwhile.

Unfortunately we have run into a somewhat bigger issue. No matter what payment method we use in our dev and/or live environment, EE4 keeps sending out double emails.

What we are trying to accomplish:
To make a custom version of the email notifications. We’ve started with the ‘Registration Approved’ message type.

But we are running into a issue as I mentioned. It is getting quite annoying because we can’t seem to solve it ourselves.

How we’ve tried to troubleshoot / resolve the issue:
1) We’ve tested it on the most recent stable and pre-release versions
2) We are using ‘invoice’ and ‘moli / ideal’ as payment methods.
3) We’ve disabled the default message types like ‘registration approved’
4) We’ve done a ‘template reset’
5) We’ve made some minor changes to the default template to see what would happen.
6) And surely a few other things I’m not remembering right now..

I think it is important to note that we actually receive both versions upon finishing our registrations; so we receive the custom template, AND the default template.

We’re lost and in need of some guidance! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Zarafa, when a custom email is created, you have the ability to assign this custom email to an event via the event editor. Was it already assigned to a specific event?

Also, the registration confirmation email has multiple contexts (e.g. event admin, registrant). Is it possible that you edited a different context and then updated the TO shortcode? For example, you edited the registrant context and then added the TO shortcode for the event author?

That would cause extra emails to go out.

Hi Lorenzo,

Thanks for your reply and help. It can be we’re missing something, but I feel we’ve set every setting in the right way. But let’s dig in anyway.

First of all, I now see that my post was not completely clear. When I was referring to the double emails, I was talking about the primary registrant receiving double emails. The event admin just receives one email. It becomes even stranger..because the primary registrant receives double emails for the registration approved context and the payment received context. He does receive only one email for the ticket context.

Answers on your questions / hints:

“…this custom email to an event via the event editor. Was it already assigned to a specific event?”
I think we did. I took some screenshots of our EE4 instance:

“Is it possible that you edited a different context and then updated the TO shortcode?”
Good point, didn’t thought about that one. I doublechecked and I think everything is in place:

Email to ‘Event Admin’:

Email to ‘Primary Registrant’:

Email to ‘Registrant’:

Important note:
While validating our set-up with your hints, two things stood out:
1) I noticed that the primary registrant receives two emails; the email for ‘primary registrant’ and the email for ‘registrant’.
2) The primary registrant receives two ‘payment received’ emails which I don’t understand.

I hope this helps!

Hi there,

If the Primary and regular registrant are the same recipient, it’s recommended to only send one. EE4 ships with the Primary registrant email disabled for this very reason.

When you test the payment received emails, are you sending a copy to the event author as well? Is that a different email address than the Primary Registrant?
