I offered tickets online for the first time at our seasonal venue. It was a great success. Thank you Event Espresso. There was one major problem that I hope can be resolved before next season or I may not be able to use Event Espresso again.

I was under the impression that the EE4 Promotions add-on would allow me to offer discount codes for tickets online. I created discount codes to use in our Search Engine Marketing efforts, AdWords and Display Ads. Come to find out, the “Promotions” add-on only applies to a single ticket and/or event. If someone buys 5 tickets using a $2 off code, it subtracts $2 from the total amount … not each ticket! Who can even use such an add-on? That is completely worthless.

Was this one big oversight? Will it be fixed anytime soon?

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to leave this valuable feedback.

You might find this interesting: This wasn’t actually a big oversight. The promo code add-on was designed to subract $x from the total because the majority of the feedback requested that it be done that way.

You’ll see just one of the many topics where this feedback was shared here:

If you or anyone else would like to sponsor the development of a promotion code add-on that works another way you can find out more here:

Thanks for the explanation Josh. I cant even think of a situation where someone would want to apply the code to the entire purchase … unless they typically only sold one ticket at a time. Can anyone else think of a situation where that would be useful?

I worked out a deal with a local TV station to promote our venue on their Family 2 Family segment but we had to agree to offer a discount to their viewers. Didn’t know it at the time but we couldn’t do it. I took a black eye over that.

I sell tickets … not events. Any discount should apply to the ticket. In fact, that is what is expected by anyone using the add-on. That is how any other online ticketing system works.

I purchased an “Everything” license and maintain an annual subscription. Does that help to sponsor correcting the Promotions add-on?

Thanks again

The other topic I linked to included an example of a situation where someone would want to apply the code to the entire purchase:

Say a class is $35.00 and someone books 2 seats. The total is $70. When they use the code for $50, it zeroes it out instead of having a $20 balance. The coupon codes work fine for booking 1 seat.

We’ve gotten a lot of feedback over the years that’s similar to the above, so the Event Espresso 4 promotions add-on was designed around that feedback.

Any discount should apply to the ticket. In fact, that is what is expected by anyone using the add-on.

You’re speaking for yourself. I just gave you an example of a franchise that sells tickets and they have different expectations. In its current state, the Promotions add-on handles the promo codes in a way that you don’t expect, but many other people actually do expect it to work the way it does now.

Does that help to sponsor correcting the Promotions add-on?

No. The everything license gives you access to support and 1-click updates for one year. It’s not a development sponsorship.
