Is it possible to edit the message system templates so that I can send what is essentially a plain text email confirmation but still use the shortcodes to insert event-specific information? I don’t understand the different field areas in the message template. Thanks.

Hi Carl,

How are you today?

Two things.

1) Yes, you can strip out all the HTML from the email templates, but you still are required to follow the shortcode assignments in order for them to be valid. There is essentially different parts of the message that are organized into a hierarchy so you can have a lot of control over the content of the messages. It is rather advanced but also challenging at times.

2) Don’t forget that you can alter the message templates on a per-event basis at the bottom of the Event Editor in the Notifications section. That way you can still retain a copy of the default templates, but not use them.

OK. thanks. Is there information available on this hierarchy and which shortcodes are allowed in which field and in what order? I appreciate that it’s advanced and challenging but it would help to have some information…or is that still being developed?

Hi Carl,

On the right-hand side of the default messages you’ll find a “Valid Shortcodes” metabox (http://www.screencast.com/t/fTBRaPXvN). Those will tell you which shortcodes can be used in which content boxes. Follow those directions and you should be able to achieve your expected result.
