Why don’t messages send right away? Is there a way to change that? See screenshot, there is a message from yesterday still waiting to be sent.

Hi,
I do not know why those 4 messages got stuck there, but they can be manually sent from that page (use the bulk actions).
Then, you can change the settings in Event Espresso > Messages > Settings to Send emails on the same request.

What does Sending on Same Request actually mean? How does it normally send?

Send on the same request means the emails will send at the same moment of the request to finalize the registration. The other option there is to process the email later and send later (using the queue, on a separate request).
