We use EE for boat reservations for a 2 day event that happens once a year, reservation system is open to public about 3 weeks in advance of the event. These are tall ships that have scheduled sailings on the Hudson River during Riverdale Riverfest. The past 2 years we got by with EE3, this year we chose to upgrade to EE4 because of the user interface and because it had a Stripe interface addon (which they ended up not using because of their comfort zone with Paypal, grrr.)

For the most part EE4 has been good but there are a couple of issues that have made it very difficult to work with.
1. No discount code – we need to reserve a certain amount of free tickets for VIPs – this was easy to do with EE3 as we would just enter the secret code to get a free ticket which we would set up. We initially decrease the max tix for the sailing by the number of alotted VIP tickets we expect to assign. Then as we get the names of the VIP people, we have to create a free ticket for the sailing, register the free ticket to the people, then go back in and disable the free ticket and also hope the public doesn’t see the free ticket while we are utilizing it for VIP registrations. Then go back in and increase the max tickets for the event accordingly.

2. Changing reservations – Need an easier way to change reservations. Now if someone requests to be moved to a different sailing there are 2 ways we can handle it – neither ideal.
a. We cancel their current reservation (cancel transaction first, delete reservations, go to Paypal and refund) and then tell them to make reservations on the desired sailing.
b. Cancel current reservation – DON”T REFUND THROUGH PAypal but create that free ticket for desired sailing, register them on the new sailing ourselves, deactivate free ticket on that sailing.

Next year I am not sure what to do – stay with EE4 or go back to EE3 – are their plans to consolidate the 2 versions or will we be having to choose between EE3 or EE4 forever?
