EE4 iPhone app clears attendees/datetimes when the event starts.

Recently I’ve been having trouble with the Event Espresso app, once an event starts the datetimes/attendees are wiped from the record. All past events display 0 attendees or records at all. This issue is not replicated on Android devices and has been showing on 3 separate iPhones (iPhone 7 and 8).

It may be related to the recent update released, the issue started happening around 2 weeks ago (first brought to my attention 22nd October). No reports were made before this time and it coincides with the second last update released.

The app is being used to check in attendees as the event starts, and only one datetime is being used per event. The attendee records are referred to later so it’s important they are available.

Please advise on the possiblity of fixing this issue, anything else that may be causing it, and anything we can do to mitigate the impact in the meantime.

Thanks,
PWS Team

Hi,

Yes, the app team needs to fix this and push out an update for the iOS app.

What you can do in the meantime to pull attendee lists from active and expired is use a workaround: If you go to another event that has both upcoming and past datetimes, a “Show past dates” toggle will appear. You toggle that on, then go to active/expired events and the attendees & datetimes display.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the suggestion.

All of our events only have one datetime, and once that has passed the entire event is over. Due to this there are no events with multiple datetimes- would it work if we added datetimes to an expired event so that we can toggle the option, then viewed the past events?

Also, we use the calendar in Table view with upcoming events sorted chronologically. Will toggling the ‘Show past dates’ option affect this setup at all? We don’t want old events to be on the page at all.

Would you happen to have a rough ETA on the app update at all?

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, you would only need to add one datetime to an older event.

No, the apps have no affect on the table view used on your site.

Would you happen to have a rough ETA on the app update at all?

I do not.

Hi Josh,

When adding an upcoming datetime to an expired event, the table view does indeed show the new datetime, which isn’t what we’d like to happen.

Also, where exactly is the ‘Show past dates’ option? After adding the datetime I wasn’t able to locate it.

It’s a temporary change that you can remove later when you’re done.

The Show past dates toggle is located just below the name of the event when you’ve loaded up the event that has both future and past datetimes. Here are a few screenshots that show its location.

Thanks for clarifying that- I was looking in the web browser for the button. Unfortunately it looks like when the Show past dates item is toggled it displays the previous datetimes only for that event, and when you go back to view the other sessions the toggle is reset to be off. The other events do not display the previous datetimes nor the attendees.

Do you know of another way I can set up this toggle so that it works, or otherwise another patch fix until the update arrives? One suggestion was to push the actual datetime start/finish back by a little bit, is that something that would change the time the app clears the data?

Thanks for your help so far.

What I’ve found with the app is after I toggle the option to show past dates, then go to another event, the past dates continue to show for the other events.

Hi Josh,

Unfortunately when I do this the option doesn’t appear, and when I go from the event info page to the event list, the choice is reset. Do you know of any other setings I’ll need to toggle to allow this?

To clarify- the option to display past events appears, but the choice is not saved.

If you change that setting on an event that has the setting, then go to another event that doesn’t have that setting, it will still show the expired datetime information.

When I’ve followed those steps, the expired events are not displaying previous datetimes, and exiting the event and going back in resets the choice.

Also, the issue is now affecting all users on all devices, not only iPhone. We have a large number of clients complaining about this issue and are under immense pressure to relieve the problem, so any news on the update’s ETA or resolution for this problem would be very much appreciated.

Hi Josh,

Just wondering if there’s any update on this issue? We’re still having problems using the app.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the update, that’s great!

Does this mean the android version has also been fixed? We had issues reported with that as well.

Thanks again for your help with this issue.

Hi,

This does not mean the Android version has also been fixed. When the Android app is fixed there will be a new version released for it.

Hi Josh,

It’s been a few weeks since we reported the Android issues, do you have any information on the update to fix them?

If it isn’t ready yet, do you have a timeline on when it will be available? Our clients have been experiencing these issues for a long time now and we’d appreciate any estimate on when the problem will be resolved.

Hi,

I checked and there was actually a commit pushed about 15 minutes ago. In other words, there has been progress on fixing the issue. This doesn’t mean the fix is ready yet, and it doesn’t provide a timeline.

I will update this topic when I have more information.
