EE3 to EE4 Upgrade Path

Hello!

With the official release of the user integration, and recently ticketing, everything I need in order to upgrade to Event Espresso 4 is available. That being said, I currently have 1900 registered attendees out of the 7000+ we expect to pre-register before our event in May. Each of those attendees was sent out an e-mail with a QR code ticket. The new barcode scanning solution has the potential to really speed up registration for us, and I would like to try to upgrade to EE4 before the bulk of our attendees pre-register. Is there any way to migrate the 1900 registered people to EE4’s tickets as well as the whole event itself over to EE4 from EE3.1.36.6.P?

Thank you!

Hi cstuckey,

One thing to keep in mind is the qr codes that you have already sent will not be recognized by the new version of EE and the new barcode scanning apps. This means that in order to use the new ticket scanner add-on, all the attendees will need to be sent the new tickets, and they’ll need to bring the new tickets with them.

If you decide to go ahead with the data migration, please try the migration on a development environment first.

Thanks for the reply Josh. Is there anyway to send out new tickes to everyone who has registered so far? Doing so manually, assuming it worked, would take quite a while.

Hi there,

EE4 has a newsletter feature that allows you to send out a newsletter in small batches. The newsletter message can include a link to download tickets. The newsletter feature will not send out all the newsletters at once because doing so would overload your mail server. The UI is basically set a number of registrations to view on a list view, then check all, then click a send newsletter button.

Again, I recommend setting up a development environment and testing this out with some sample data before making the migration.
