EE3 Event-List Templates

I am having a problem with the event-list templates.The event-list.php and event-list-display.php files remain unchanged. (I checked both in the event-espresso/templates dir and the uploads/espresso/templates dir). However, now whenever I create a new event, the event list display has been changed. Instead of view details, I get register, and the remaining attendees available is displayed. I found a file under wp-content/plugins/espresso-custom-templates that appears to be the culprit. However I edited this file and no changes occurred on the website. I don’t understand where espresso is pulling this template from.
