Nothing is broken from a functionality standpoint, just getting a 1 next to the Plugins menu item and a 1 in the admin bar. If I deactivate EE, it goes away. Oddly, there is no 1 next to the Dashboard menu item. All other plugins, themes are updated and WP is at 3.5.1. If that makes absolutely no sense, I’ve added a screen shot.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for letting us know about this. I assume you’re on version 3.1.30?

Hi Mike,

We know, it doesn’t make sense to us either! We have been trying to pinpoint why that occurs for a while now. We know it has no detrimental effect but it is slightly irritating. It also does not occur all the time on everyones system. For example on my new site with 3.1.30 running, no update notification.

We will keep on trying to figure out why it occurs 🙂

Hi Mike,

Can you take a look at your account page and verify that the version numbers of the Event Espresso add-ons match what you have installed on your site? A few of the add-ons had an unintentional folder name change a while back and may be causing this.

I believe I’m up to date.

Hi Mike,

We did find a problem with the zip file in the .30.1 release that was pushed out late last night. We’ve since updated and this resolved the issue.

You could either manually update, or FTP into /wp-content/plugins on your server and force an automatic update.

Here is how to force an automatic update:

1) Deactivate Event Espresso.
2) FTP into /wp-content/plugins/ and you’ll likely see that the Event Espresso plugin folder is named eventespresso.tmp. It should be named event-espresso, so if it isn’t, you can change the folder name to event-espresso.
3) Open up espresso.php in the plugin directory and change the version numbers on line 9 and 35. Something like 3.1.29.P will work.
4) Go back to your plugin page and reactivate Event Espresso.
5) Go to Event Espresso>General Settings and save the options
6) Go back to your plugin page and hit the automatic update link.

Done and done, that did the trick. Thanks guys!
