Hi there,

Is there a date on making EE compatible with Gutenberg Block editing? The WP new Block editing is awesome and I want to use these new features (FAQ, Hero, Info Box, etc.) in our events.
Thanks
Ted

Going to submit this to our tEEm. By the way, Does EE shortcode works perfectly with your Gutenberg or do you experience any issue using it?

thanks

Hi Rio,
Thanks for your reply. I cannot use the blocks in EE, but when use the shortcodes in blog posts or pages (which I can use Gutenberg Blocks) I haven’t experienced any issue so far.

I love EE a lot and have been using it for many years, but the Gutenberg blocks make everything easier to use and the result is awesome! I was wondering if applying the Gutenberg to EE is not possible, I should move to another event organizer plugin that supports the Gutenberg.

Please let me know.

Cheers,
Ted

Hi Ted,

Currently, we aren’t working on switching the Event Espresso editor over to using Gutenberg. That’s not to say we won’t in the future, but that we haven’t started any planning/framework/development time working on switching to Gutenberg.

So having said that even if we decided right now that we wanted to switch the editor over to use Gutenberg and dropped all current developments we have right now to focus solely on doing so it would not be quick. But again, we don’t have plans on doing so currently.

EE events aren’t ‘simple’, we have our own routes for the Event Editor because of how much the events rely on the sections within it, the datetimes, the tickets and so on. The benefit of switching the event editor over to using Gutenberg so that people can edit using blocks (yes, I know there are benefits) doesn’t outweigh the cons of doing so for the majority of our users as it stands.

Of course, editing the event details within Gutenberg would be ‘better’ than what we have now, but what about everything else, the datetimes, tickets, messages etc. In short there’s a lot of moving parts for Event Espresso and switching to Gutenberg is something we can consider in the long run, but I can tell you it will be a long way off based on the developments we have in the works already.

So, I don’t want to sound like I’m just dismissing you/Gutenberg here but we believe in being as transparent as we can with our development time. As much as we’d love to be able to support every feature, we can’t so we prioritise our development times on EE core and supporting the events the best we can.

Unfortunately, if EE not using Gutenberg is a deal breaker for you we can’t change that as (explained above) switching over to Gutenberg isn’t something that can be done quickly even if we chose to right now.

Thank you so much Tony. Your answer is complete and convincing. One more question:

Is it possible to create a template for the events? I use Astra Pro and couldn’t find any way to create a simple template for the events. And designing each event is quite time consuming.

I appreciate your response.

Templates? That sounds like an Astra feature.

Do you have a screenshot of the section you normally create them in?

Thanks Tony,
Here is the siteBuilder by Astra.

And here I can design a page/post to reuse it:

Thanks you so much for your help

Hi Ted,

My apologies for the delayed reply, I’ve been working on the latest update to EE to fix a separate issue.

So officially, the answer here would be no as that’s a theme specific feature and not something we can build into Event Espresso. However, can you send me a copy of Astra Pro so I can install it locally and take a look?

I can check into Astra to see if this is just something that can be enabled with a hook (in short telling it to load the EE event post types for the template builder).

Note that the interest in looking into Astra is outside of Event Espresso support, officially this would be something we can’t support but I’m interested to see if it’s just something that could be ‘unofficially’ enabled. Generally with page builders, it’s not that simple, but I’m happy to take a look.

Thank you Tony. I understand how busy you are and I appreciate your help. Can you provide me with a private link that I can send you the key for the Astra Pro. All you need is to instal the Astra and then activate the Pro using the key.

Cheers,

Tony

Are you sure you key allows for multiple sites?

If so, you can send the key to support@eventespresso.com
