EE 5.0.3 Upgrade Breaks Pages Linked to Events

Good morning,

Douglas Singer (Full Stack Web Developer) here on behalf of Edge Webware. My email is dsinger@edgewebware.com

We upgraded our client’s website to EE 5.0.3.p, and all the slugs to pages that formerly showed events broke (404).

We rolled back to version 4.10.45.p – this restored the broken pages. Will I also need to roll back the database to the backup we made before upgrading the plugin version?

Thank you!

-Douglas

Hi Douglas,

We upgraded our client’s website to EE 5.0.3.p, and all the slugs to pages that formerly showed events broke (404).

It sounds like you needed to flush permalinks, or there’s a conflict with the slug in use, although that would be the same for 4.10.XX

If you update again, does it happen again?

If so, go to Settings -> Permalinks, make no changes and just hit save.

Does that fix it?

We rolled back to version 4.10.45.p – this restored the broken pages. Will I also need to roll back the database to the backup we made before upgrading the plugin version?

No, the migration between 4.10 and 5.0 is small, its fine to switch between those versions.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your reply.

I updated again and experienced the same problem. Settings -> Permalinks -> save did not resolve. (I also cleared server cache – there is no site cache.) Rolling back fixed the problem.

Let me know if there’s anything else we should try.

Hmm, yeah that’s strange!

Does your host have a staging environment available?

Or can you clone the current site to a subdomain and update EE there?

I’d like to take a look at the request and see if anything stands out with EE5 running, but rather not do that on your live site.

Actually… when you updated to EE5, did you run the migration?

When you activate EE5 it will put Event Espresso into maintenance mode until the migration has been run, whilst EE is in MM the event slugs will not work.
