I have a client that would like to edit the name and email address for additional attendees. The registrant didn’t have the names of all the additional people so she put in her name as a placeholder. I’ve found a previous post on this topic at https://eventespresso.com/topic/registration-of-multiple-attendeestickets-are-all-being-given-same-name/#post-172499, but the solution doesn’t appear to work. In that post, my client would fit into the option C (An event that does collect information from additional registrants including the personal question group) and the post says an Add/Create Contact button should appear next to the View/Edit Contact button. However, there is not an Add/Create Contact button. Is this the only way to edit the names of additional attendees (or Other Registrants in the admin)?

Hi there,

The ‘Add/Create Contact’ button will only appear on the additional registrations, so are you viewing the primary registration or the additional?

For example, if I create 4 registrations using the same Personal Info for additional registrants as the primary I get these registrations – http://take.ms/a10IU

The regitration with the * next to my name is the Primary registration, if I view that registration I’ll see this – http://take.ms/DFVi0

If I click on any of the additional registrations I see this – http://take.ms/GSYhW

If you click the create contact button EE will duplicate the current contact, assign it to the registration and then display the contact for you to edit.

So do you not see that button at all on the additional registrations?

Hi Tony.

I might have been viewing the primary registration, but I’m seeing the same thing for either the main or additional registrants. I’m not seeing the Add/Edit button for either. Do either of these things matter:

  1. The event is currently Sold Out. Do there need to be available tickets?
  2. My list of registrants have a lock next to them with a tool tip that says this is because it is part of a transaction (this is a paid event).

Neither of those matter. What matters is what was entered for the Attendee name and email address.

Update: So I just looked at a different Additional Registrant for a different event and I do see the “Create Contact” button.

Any idea why am I not seeing the Add/Create button for this particular Additional Registrant? I’m looking at an additional user (no asterisk, and 4/10.)

Edit that single registrant and add something to name, it doesn’t matter what just make it so it is is different, from ‘Tony’ to ‘Tony2’ is fine.

Now view the registrations again, does it show that edited name (in my example ‘Tony2’) for all of the registrations or just that single one you edited?

It looks like it changed all of the registrations to Yolanda2 (in my case).

So basically I’m looking at two different events where one has the Add/Create button for additional registrants and one doesn’t seem to have the Add/Create button for additional registrants. Both of these events have Personal Information checked for Questions for Additional Registrants. For the event without the Add/Create button, could the site admins have checked this after some registrations were already created? Would that explain why it is checked now, but I can’t Add/Create a contact for an additional registration?

Hmm, ok.

That wasn’t the Primary Registrant that you edited right? It should have been one of the other registrations.

If so then all of the registrations are assigned to the same contact (expected), but that also means you should be seeing that create contact button.

You can change that back now if you wish.

You mentioned above a different group registration does show the create contact button, whats different about that group? Just a different event?

Correct, it was one of the non-primary registrants (no asterisk by the name). I have changed it back.

Correct, there is a group registration that does show the create button and it is a different event. As far as I can tell there is nothing different from the way that event is setup compared to the event that does not show the create button.

I also found a third event with group registrations where the create button is also not showing.

I can’t figure out why it would work for one and not for the other. I did somewhat recently migrate this installation of Event Espresso from v3 to v4. I have no idea if some of these events were create before and some after the migration. Could that be an issue?

The event itself being migrated shouldn’t be a problem.

The were the registrations made before the migration using EE3 or are these registration made using EE4?

Can I take a look at the registrations in the admin? If so you can send temorary login details using this form:

Hi Tony.

I have sent a temporary admin login and some links as examples.

Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.

Hi Tony.

I forgot to answer you questions. I do not believe these registrations were made in EE3. I am almost positive these were made in EE4 after the migration.

Hi there,

I replied directly via email as I used specific details for your contacts that I’m not going to post here.

In short for any additional readers the Create contact button will only show if for additional registrants if the contact on that registration matches the primary registrant.

On the above the Primary registrant is one Contact and the other registrations are another.

Thanks Tony. I got your email. Yolanda is just a placeholder for these additional registrants. So in this situation, is there any way to change the name/email of the Additional Attendees?

You would need to edit the the DB so that the ATT_ID for all of the additional registrant rows for that group within the esp_registration table matched the Primary Registrants ATT_ID (meaning all of the registrations would then be attahed to the Primary Registrants contact).

(Backup your database if you going to attempt to do that)

The other option you have is to cancel the original registrations and create a new group, using the Primary Registrants details for all of the registrations, that way they are all assigned to the same contact and EE will allow you to break them out into their own.
