Duplicating Event also copies over the Attendees list?

When I duplicate an event using the “Duplicate Event” button to clone our 2012 event and rebrand it as 2013, it also copies over the Attendees for the 2012 event. But when I deleted the attendees within that 2013 event, I went back and noticed that they were also gone from the archive of our 2012 event. What is the best way to handle this?

Hi,

The Duplicate Event button does not copy attendees, just the event. It may be that you were taken to a shortened event overview containing the original event not the duplicate. If you click the event overview after duplicating you will see all the events, find the duplicate (it will have a higher ID number) and edit as needed. The attendees will not be attached.

Okay, that’s totally possible that that is what happened, but WHY? I clicked “Duplicate Event” and then it took me back out to show me ONE event listed… why would I not assume that to be the new event? I changed all of the details from 2012 to 2013, but now I go back and look at the 2012 events and they all have 0 attendees, while my 2013 events have a populated number of attendees. This seems to be bad form in the way Event Espresso displays duplicated events. ๐Ÿ™ It took me about an hour last night to go through and duplicate all 10 events and adjust details… and now it looks like I am going to have to make further changes?! Aghh. ๐Ÿ™

Hi,

I am sorry about that and I fully agree with what you are saying. I have already raised a ticket to look into this as it is not a great user experience to be shown the original event when you would expect to see the duplicate or the full event list.

Thanks for doing that. I basically just went through and deleted all of the attendees… which means I lost all of last year’s data, but that was easier than spending another hour recreating all 9 of my events. I do hope they are able to address this issue in a coming update!

I hope so too. Thanks for the feedback!

I’ve experienced the same issue and learned the hard way that after clicking “duplicate event” you need to go back to the main event list and then look for the version with zero attendees before editing any further.

I’ve added a fix to the development branch (3.1.37) which will be reviewed before inclusion, but until then you can open includes/event-management/index.php and find line 55 and add the following line, so that it will then read:

copy_event();
$_REQUEST['event_id'] = '';
