I am having real difficulties getting EE working with any decent theme.
Originally, based on your advise I purchased Smartbox. However that proved to be incompatible with EE4 so I downgraded to EE3. That was still problematic and was subsequently advised to use a different theme.
Now I am trying to go back to EE4 and see what the Iced Mocha theme is like since I would rather use the latest version of EE. However after deactivating all the EE3 plugins and reactivating the EE4 plugins I had originally installed I am now getting this error on my apache error log:
[Mon Sep 15 14:04:48 2014] [error] [client 192.168.2.10] PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare espresso_version() (previously declared in /Library/WebServer/Documents/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php:46) in /Library/WebServer/Documents/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/espresso.php on line 35, referer: http://media-server/wordpress/wp-admin/post.php?post=58&action=edit

The result is that even WordPress doesn’t start properly.
Can you please :
1) advise on how to fix ( note this is an internal system and there’s no external access ),
2) advise on what themes ( specifically, and in addition to Iced Mocha ) you can assert work properly with EE4.

Hi,

It looks like you have tried to activate EE4 when another version (looks like EE3) is already active.

To resolve this you will need to use FTP to access the /Library/WebServer/Documents/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/ directory and then rename the /event-espresso/ folder to something different ( event-espresso-old or something similar).

This should deactivate the plugin in WordPress allowing access.

It is recommended to remove old versions of the plugins or plugins that are no longer in use (this goes for all plugins not just EE).

Regarding themes, we generally do not make specific recommendations, however any theme coded to WordPress standards should work fine. Iced Mocha was tested with EE4 specifically so it should integrate fine.

We have a list here of themes with known conflicts: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/known-third-party-plugin-theme-conflicts/

What were the issues you were having?

OK – thanks for that I have renamed the directory and can now view pages in WordPress.
I had a plethora of problems with short codes not working, pages not rendering correctly etc.
Can my license be changed over to EE4 seeing as how it was originally that anyway and I only changed because of theme issues?
