Does a Refund of payment update Event Status for user?

If I issue a refund on paypal, does the payment gateway update the payment status for the registrar on the site?
What about in the case where partial refunds are made? just curious how this works. I have a client that needs to know if they need to manually update the status or not.

Hi Kevin —

Sorry about the delay in a response. This must’ve fallen through the cracks.

I believe refunds are handled differently depending on the gateway. The only one that I know for sure is PayPal because we’ve done some testing and had some people using this. Basically what happens when you issue a refund is PayPal sends another IPN request to your site saying the payment status has changed. That registration in Event Espresso then becomes “Incomplete” again. The same thing happens for partial refunds. Event Espresso does see that something happened (because PayPal sends the IPN) and updates the status based on what it thinks it should be.
