We had a number of people with incomplete registrations for one of our events. I sent them an email to ask them if they wanted to continue their registration and in the meantime we ‘trashed’ their incomplete registration thinking that the system would re-add their registration if they did sign up again. Is this the case or does the registration simply get marked as complete in ‘trash’ and it’s up to us to manually ‘restore’ their registration?
Incomplete registrations are those with no contact details, so I assume you mean incomplete transactions?
For incomplete registrations EE doesn’t know who they are linked to other than the current ‘session ID’ (which will change when they visit at a later date) so it can’t ‘restore’ them when the user returns as it has no idea which one to restore at that point.
If you’ve trashed those registrations then when the user tries to complete them using the links within the emails (if you used EE generated emails) they won’t work and the user will need to create a new registration.
May I ask why you trashed those registrations?
