Hello,
I would like to display the event category on the event details page. I found two links:
Link 1: https://eventespresso.com/topic/category-description-not-showing-in-event/
I followed the steps and created a new .php file, not sure what the next step is to display the category on the event page
Link 2: https://eventespresso.com/topic/show-event-category-in-custom-event-list-display-template/
Not sure where the event_list_display.php is so I can modify it.
Do you recommend any one of the above or some other way to display category on the event page?

This is the correct thread to follow, the other thread is for EE3 and does not apply to the version of Event Espresso you are using.
What PHP file have you created? A custom functions plugin from the documentation linked in that thread?

If you add the snippet Josh provided to a custom functions plugin on the site it should output the category description for the category assigned to it but you’ll likely need to modify that depending on what you want to output.

Hi Tony,
Yes, i followed the instructions and created a site specific plugin and copied the code snipped from Josh (https://gist.github.com/joshfeck/2df649a11c8cda58e69d478a74873808) into that plugin. I have updated the category description, but they are not showing up on the event page. Am I missing a step?

Have you activated the custom functions plugin on the site?
The reason I ask is if I copy that function to a plugin on a test site, add some description to an EE category and set it to an event I can see the text on the event page – http://take.ms/HpbZx
