The main reason I’m switching to EE from my current solution is to allow my clients to group classes together for a discount. The answers to the relevant forum questions were blocked in the pre-purchase phase (a policy I really think you should consider changing) so I bought a business license to find out how to do this.

I teach a series of classes called 101, 102 & 103. With my current system each class is chosen separately and dropped into a shopping cart at a fixed price each. I’d like to continue that option but offer the incentive of a lower price if all three are purchased at once. I can’t see how to do that with the MER module. I thought the Volume Discount add-in might help but no luck. Is this possible?

I did discover your page for having only “add to cart” for all items which is beneficial and keeps the process constant for all users: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/multiple-events-registration-use-add-to-cart-link-instead-of-default-registration-form/

Hi Peter,

The Volume discounts add-on should work in this case. How do you have it set up?

As an aside, the answers to the questions in the Pre-sales forum are viewable without being log in.

Josh, I’m just trying to figure this out. It looks like I’ll need to make the volume discount specific to a category, like evening_class_series as opposed to evening_class_single for example. That makes sense. Then it looks like I need to use event meta fields, is that right? I only want the discount to apply to particular class series, not if they mix and match one class from one series and two classes from another. Any guidance would be welcomed!

On the issue of pre-sales support, it’s true that the pre-sales forum is visible but when I searched for the issues I was most interested in (and the ones that would determine whether EE is the right solution for my business), every one of the answers was blocked as well as relevant documentation. I understand that you’re trying to protect some of the information for those who have registered and you don’t want to be giving free support, but not allowing a potential buyer to at least read the replies is frustrating and, in my opinion, not the right decision.

Hi Peter,

You don’t need to use the event_meta tags, that is optional.

Thanks for the feedback on the way the forums are set up. It was a tough decision made by the owners and not everyone agrees with it.

Tested some more and still not getting the result needed. Scenario:

I have a three class series named Photo 1,2,3 respectively. I have another class series named Graphics 1,2,3. Each of those classes series is in its own category.  I want the group discount to only be applied when someone registers for all three Photo or Graphics series, no mixing and matching between series.

Using volume discounts and checking each of the categories is allowing me to register for Photo 1&2 and Graphics 1 and still get the discount. How do I keep the group discount constrained to just the class series?

Thanks.

Hi Peter,

The Volume discounts add-on does not have the capability to apply a discount to either of two categories and exclude the discounts from happening if both categories are selected and there’s mixing and matching going on. The volume discount add-on would need to be refactored to allow for this.

One thing that you could try that would help guide the registrant toward signing up for all three classes would be to place a shortcode on a page where it automatically adds all three classes to the cart.

An example of what the shortcode would look like:

[ESPRESSO_CART_LINK event_id=101-102-103]
