I currently have an Everything license and had intended to use EE for a client need, but it’s morphed into something else. I’m wondering if EE may or may not support their new concept…

They’d like to create a directory of thousands of a certain type of brick-n-mortar events (ex. 1000s of nation-wide car auctions) across the country. Event organizers could create an account, log into this event ‘directory’ and add/manage their multiple events calendar, completing a custom form of event type, admission price, location, etc. Users could then search this event ‘database or directory’ within a certain radius/type/cost/etc and display matching events, drill into the specifics of that event, contact the event organizers, etc. Eventually they’d like to offer event organization, selling tickets, payments, and many of the event-management functionality that EE has.

In other words, is EE scalable like this? Does it include the above ‘directory’ and multi-event search functionality? Before I dive in, I’d like to make sure EE has this “context”.

Perhaps I need to combine EE with a WordPress directory plugin of sorts. Once we start adding event-specific management functionality (like ticketing for a specific event), there’s a hand-off to EE?

Thanks for any feedback/thoughts!

Hi cfryburger,

That’s a great question. If you’re looking at using Event Espresso for this you might consider doing a multisite network for each event organizer. The other alternative would be a single site for all events. In either case, you’ll make use of the capability system.

If you go the multisite route you could make use of Event Espresso’s built in REST API where you can pull, filter, and display events from all of the sites on the network.

With regards to scalability, that will depend on how much server resources will be available. A project like this is not something that will perform well on a shared host or even a VPS. It could eventually require a dedicated server admin or a high end managed host like Pagely.
