The more I look into EE the more I like it. Great job Seth and Co. I was wondering if these customizations are possible and how difficult they might be. I need to quote my client and want to make sure I am in the ballpark. Not having used EE before I would like to make sure my quote isn’t too much of a guess. The site is for IT training classes (events) and will have 192 classes all on random schedules. Having just experimented with recurring events I can see this will result in a lot of entries in the Event Overview. As mentioned in a previous post what we are building will be similar to http://www.globalknowledge.com/. The Custom Files add-on would be a must I gather. 1) Category page: List all classes for a category regardless of whether they have a future scheduled date. Each should only be listed once if they have multiple schedule dates in the future. Only the title of the class and the class duration would be listed. Similar to http://tastebudskitchen.com/cooking-list/. I guess Event Meta would be used for class duration. Would I add an option to the event list shortcode (eg show_title_only=true) or is that being too ambitious. 2) Customize the current widget or create a new one to dynamically show upcoming events for the current category. 3) Event Page: Widget to show all upcoming dates for the current event (class) with an Enroll link. If this isn’t possible how difficult would it be to show the dates in the class content with links to the registration form. I saw an jquery example in the recurring events video on YouTube. I have html, css, php and WordPress experience. We are using the Genesis framework. The more I look into this the more I realize this could be a lot of work. Thanks for any suggestion you can offer. |
Hi Darren, Here are a few suggestions based on these ideas: 1 & 3) The event_list shortcode does not have a show_title only parameter. One option you could look into would be to modify the event_list_display.php template so it only displays the information for each event (eg title only). Use the recurring events templates that are included with the REM module. It will group all the events into a series and create a little animated date dropdown when a course is selected: 2) That would need to be custom developed if this was all going to get loaded on the same page via ajax. One way I could imagine doing this without the development would be to create a page for each category. Then use something like widget log to display a unique widget per page. A sub-navigation menu might come in handy. |

Thanks for your reply and advice Josh. I don’t seem to be getting reply notifications via email and I was assuming I had asked too many technical questions for a pre-sales post. 🙂 Can’t see anything in junk but will look into it at my end. |
