Customising the date filter and ticket selector

Hi again, continuing from my last post. I’ve been trying to experiment with the layout but I’ve kept hitting a wall. I need some direction/advice on where and how I can customise the layout or override the source code.

I’m trying to achieve a layout similar to this wireframe I’ve drafted to present the dates better than the current one right now. See page link for context.

I have 2 layout options to pursue: A calendar style (preferable but highly challenging) or to use the current style but with modifications to how its display. In both options, I’d like to have the date filter and the list of tickets in the same modal window OR alternatively, have both shown inside the page itself (not separate as it is now).

I hope my explanation is understandable!

Hi there,

Whilst we are more than happy to help point you in the right direction if we can, I think it’s important to set clear expectations of what we provide through support as all of the above would be customizations, which we don’t provide support for. Generally, we advise developer based questions to be directed here (create an issue and label it a question) however you’ll need to be much more specific on the issues you are facing as right now you question is too general.

For example, can you provide some details on where exactly you are hitting a wall?

Whilst I understand what you are trying to do, there are no specifics of where you are getting stuck. For example:

I need some direction/advice on where and how I can customise the layout or override the source code.

Of what? The ticket selector? The datetime filter? Both?

I can tell you that there is a huge amount of logic involved in the ticket selector and overriding its template(s) (whilst possible) is not really advised unless your really comfortable with how it works (I don’t know if you are?).

The DatetimeSelector doesn’t have any filters/templates you can use to override the content, but there’s nothing stopping you from disabling it and adding your own, its basically a checkbox selection with some JavaScript to hide/show tickets within the ticket selector.

The ticket selector is called within \event-espresso-core-reg\public\Espresso_Arabica_2014\content-espresso_events-tickets.php so one option is to copy that file to your theme’s root directory add your own content there to be displayed with the ticket selector.

I’m trying to achieve a layout similar to this wireframe I’ve drafted to present the dates better than the current one right now. See page link for context.

Short of creating that for you and saying this is how to do it (which we can not do), I’m not sure what answers we can provide here.

I don’t intend for my reply above to be negative, I really like where you are going with this (although I get them impression from a calendar based selector that you are planning on a lot of tickets within a single event, that’s going to hit your server harder than multiple events), but unless you are looking for questions to a specific issue(s) there isn’t much we can add here to help, as much as I would like to!
