I am very interested in using Event Espresso.

On the issue of custom payment gateway development, no payment gateway for my country is listed at the moment. That said, we can handle this at our end. Question is, is the event plugin built such that any developer can integrate it with any gateway? If yes, can you please point me to integration documentation for Event Espresso?

Regards
Victor

Hi Victor,

We don’t really have developer documentation currently, and the hooks are somewhat limited. We are looking to improve both aspects when we launch version 3.2 in 2013.

Right now we do take on custom gateway development, the details and form can be found here

Hi Dean,

Thanks a lot for your kind response.

Though I am a bit disappointed that we can’t currently do the integration ourselves, I’m very open to you taking on the custom gateway development for me.

But first let me ask: do you have any existing African gateway integrated with Event Espresso available for off-the-self purchase?

I saw that gateway development would cost $650. Is this right? That’s a huge amount of money. If my assumption is correct and as I would essentially be using most of my savings to pay for this project, I would like to own the exclusive rights to the gateway. This is so as to ensure that no one else buys the gateway and then wipes me out of business at this point in the small life of my business. I hope this is acceptable to you?

If we can proceed on the basis of the above, kindly let me know when you resume fully for the year so I can make adequate preparations to make payment.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards
Segun

Hi Segun,
There is a list of gateways that are included with the paid version of Event Espresso on this page:

https://eventespresso.com/features/payment-options/

If any of the listed gateways can used in your country, you can get an account with that gateway and use it with Event Espresso without the custom devlopment.

The $650.00 fee for buiding a custom gateway is based on a sponsored development rate, so we retain the code, maintain it, and include it in future versions of the plugin. In order to own exclusive rights to a gateway, the work would need to be billed at the non-reusable development rate. Please see this post about sponsored development for more information:

Thanks Josh for your response. I have a couple more questions:

  1. Assuming I want to write the gateway my self, am I am free to purchase Event Espresso and integrate with any gateway I want? and I do not necessarily need to use your own services for gateway development?
  2. If the above is correct, that is, that I can by myself integrate Espresso with whatever gateway I like on my own, then please where can I get sample gateway scripts to refer to [such as Paypal or 2checkout] to see how they were integrated with Event Espresso?
  3. Do you have a real-world demo site where I can view all the features of Event Espresso? The demo site I saw looked quite ordinary and did not appear to show all your features. If there is no demo site, can you please provide a URL to the website of a heavy user of Espresso so I can see all the features in action. Event Manager Pro plugin has a good demo site here, http://demo.wp-events-plugin.com/, I’ll like to see something like this running Espresso.
  4. If I build the gateway now, will it work with future updates to EE?

Regards
Segun

Hi Segun,

Please note my responses to each of your questions below:

Assuming I want to write the gateway my self, am I am free to purchase
Event Espresso and integrate with any gateway I want? and I do not
necessarily need to use your own services for gateway development?

Yes, you can build your own gateway. Please note that we do not offer support for custom gateway integrations.

If the above is correct, that is, that I can by myself integrate
Espresso with whatever gateway I like on my own, then please where can
I get sample gateway scripts to refer to [such as Paypal or 2checkout]
to see how they were integrated with Event Espresso?

Yes, all the gateways are included with the paid version. The lite version of Event Espresso includes the PayPal gateway as well.

Do you have a real-world demo site where I can view all the features
of Event Espresso? The demo site I saw looked quite ordinary and did
not appear to show all your features. If there is no demo site, can
you please provide a URL to the website of a heavy user of Espresso so
I can see all the features in action. Event Manager Pro plugin has a
good demo site here, http://demo.wp-events-plugin.com/, I’ll like to
see something like this running Espresso.

Yes, there is the test drive where you can get a free account to test Event Espresso:
https://eventespresso.com/download/test-drive-event-espresso/

Here is a link to our showcase which features other sites that use Event Espresso:
https://eventespresso.com/showcase/

If I build the gateway now, will it work with future updates to EE?

It will work up to Event Espresso 3.2. In Event Espresso 3.2 all the gateways are being refactored to work with the new pricing modules.

One more question: Does Event Espresso allow for complete front-end submission of events? including adding speaker information, photos etc. right from the front end?

also can event espresso be used with or extended by tools such as wp types and views or the pods framework for custom post types and taxonomies

Not currently, but it is something we’d like to add in the future.

also can event espresso be used with or extended by tools such as wp types and views or the pods framework for custom post types and taxonomies

I don’t believe so.
