Custom fields on barcode checkin page

Is there a way to create a field to enter some information to the attendee record on checkin, particuarly on the barcode scan page? From there, after it finds the record, one can go to View Contact Details and edit, but I was hoping to simplify that by putting a small form next to the Check In button.
