Can you define “no longer works” a bit? Does a non-custom email get sent instead of the custom email? Have you verified that the custom template is set within the event to get sent to the registrants?
If you go to Event Espresso > General Settings and look at the Email Settings box, is Send payment confirmation emails? set to Yes or No? If set to Yes, you’ll change that to No to allow only sending custom emails.
