Custom e-mail confirmations shortcode issue

I have a strange issue. My custom confirmation e-mails don’t show the [start_date] and [start_time] shortcodes in the sent confirmation e-mails. [event], [fname], [lname], [company], [google_map_link], and [venue_url] all work, but time and date are missing completely. My emails thus look something like this: “Thank you Even Onsager for registering for Hamlet at .” (Before “at” there should be a date and after there should be a start time.)

The strange part is that if I copy the exact e-mail text (with shortcodes) to a new e-mail in the E-mail Manager and use that instead, all is fine. So I have a nice workaround at least, but I would prefer to use custom emails for one-offs so I don’t have to bog down the E-mail manager with non-repeated confirmations.

Is this a known issue? I’m using EE 3.1.36.5P and WordPress 4.0, and the language is Norwegian bokmål. (I have not tried to replicate it on a vanilla English-language install.)

Hi Even,

Could you go to the event editor and ensure that the toggle is set to Yes:

This enables the custom email for each event.

Be sure to save changes afterwards.

You misunderstand me. I have set the toggle to yes, like I said I get the custom e-mail I write just fine, every word of it except two of the shortcodes which are mysteriously absent. My standard confirmation e-mail – which is what I’d received if I hadn’t set the toggle – looks nothing like this. (Also, not that it matters, but in my standard confirmation start_date works.)

Hi,

Can you copy and paste the template here so we can test it out?

Feel free to remove any personal information for your event but we’ll need to have all of the shortcodes.

Also, are you on the latest version of Event Espresso 3?

I’m on 3.1.36.5P. By template, do you mean the confirmation e-mail (with shortcodes) or something else?

Hi Even,

I think Lorenzo means the body of the email message text with the shortcodes that was entered on the General Settings page.

I can confirm that this isn’t a known issue with Event Espresso 3, I double-checked and came up with this.

You’ll see that the dates are displaying as expected there.

A few things you could try are check what’s in the email with the Text tab active instead of Visual, and resave the General Settings page. If you know how to look in the database with either phpmyAdmin or Adminer, you’ll find the default message in the wp_options table in a serialized array named events_organization_settings. You’ll want to be sure the shortcodes are in the message there as well. It will look like this.

Just to be clear, I’ve never had any issue with the General Settings e-mail or any of the E-mail Manager e-mails, only with the custom e-mails I define on a per event basis.

But I tried to reproduce the issue myself now and I couldn’t. I re-entered the text from the e-mail manager (the one that worked) into the custom e-mail field, chose that instead and then deleted the e-mail in the e-mail manager. It looked exactly the same as the one I had yesterday, the only difference is that the shortcode was included this time.

My guess is weirdness in the visual editor (possibly on pasting, but I only pasted from within EE itself), but without any real data to go on it’s impossible to tell now.

Sorry I wasted your time.
