Hey guys,

We use event espresso for a gym where people can make reservations for different type of group workouts.

We were asked if it would be possible to grant access to Event Espresso for trainers, so they can login into WordPress and check how many people subscribed to the their class.

Is there a plug-in that works well together with Event Espresso in which we can create a user type for trainers that we can configure properly?
It’s okay to create just a single user for all trainers. It’s not a problem that they can see other classes and such.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best, memento

Hi Memento,

I’m not aware of a way to make a read only user for Event Espresso 3 for the admin side. What you could do is set up a password protected page that lists out the attendees for the events. Or another solution would be add the attendee shortcode to the template that displays the event information, and wrap that shortcode in a restrict content shortcode. This way they could view the event on the front end, and the attendee list would display if they’re logged in.

As an aside, Event Espresso 4 has an extensive capabilities system built in that allows for finer control over the admin to allow for read only access.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for your response. I didn’t think of a front end solution, so that’s not a bad idea.

However seeing the amount of people that subscribed via the frontend can be done through the calendar as well. I forgot to mention that the trainers of the gym would like to see WHO registered for their classes (by name).

Would this be possible using a shortcode of some sort? It’s no problem listing all events (there about 50 classes each week), as long as they can see who registered.

Any thoughts?

Regarding EE4:
We chose for Event Espresso 3 because it lacked support for a few plugins we needed for the website that were only available for Event Espresso 3. I see that most plugins are event espresso 4 compatible (good thing!). I’m sure there’s no such thing as an easy way to upgrade to EE4 is there?

You can include the [LISTATTENDEES] shortcode within the event description to list out the attendee names. Again you can wrap that shrotcode within a restrict content shortcode using something like Members so only certain user accounts can view the output.

I’m sure there’s no such thing as an easy way to upgrade to EE4 is there?

EE4 will migrate your event data over from EE3. IF you have not modifed EE3 then this is usually straight forward but we highly recommend doing so on a development copy of the site first, just to be sure.

However could you provide further details on what add-ons your are waiting on for EE4, just so we can confirm if EE4 actually supports the features you need before you attempt an migration.

Hey Tony,

Thank you for your swift response. I just tried the shortcode, is there anyway to add more data to the overview? (at least some date/time info?)

Thanks. Marc

Hey Tony,

Regarding tje EE3 -> EE4 upgrade. We need:
* DONT UPDATE * Event Espresso – Calendar
* DONT UPDATE * Event Espresso – Members Addon
Event Espresso – Multi Event Registration
Event Espresso – Recurring Events

The don’t update is because of the language string translation that didn’t work.

Of all of this is supported we might consider doing an upgrade (as there are many issues with the current EE 3 version ).

Best.

EE uses the attendee_list.php template file within /plugins/event-espresso/templates/ to output the details so for additional details you’ll need to edit the template.

You can grab a copy of that template and upload it to /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates/ to load your custom version.

There you can edit the output to include the details you prefer, you have the $attendee object that contains all kinds of information on the attendee.
