Hi,

I am in the process of updating some EE plugins through my wordpress site and the site has crashed at the back end (i.e. I can no longer login!) and given me this message:

Fatal error: Class ‘EE_Config_Base’ not found in /homepages/32/d505805666/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Network_Config.core.php on line 198

I still have access through ftp.

Please advise.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,

That error usually means there are files missing within the plugin.

If you have access through FTP navigate to /wp-content/plugins/

Rename the event-espresso-core-reg directory to something else, just add -temp to the end.

Now log back into your site and go to Dashboard -> Plugins.

EE will be de-activated, do not reactivate that version. (You can delete it if you prefer to cause less confusing shortly)

Now go to your account page, download the latest version of Event Espresso 4 from there.

Back on your site: Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Plugin

Select the .zip file you just downloaded, update and activate that… does it work then?

(You also have the option to upload via FTP but it takes much longer and can cause issues with missing files, so using the above method is preferred)

All OK until I hit update and…

Fatal error: Class ‘EE_Config_Base’ not found in /homepages/32/d505805666/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Network_Config.core.php on line 198

Why are you hitting update and on what?

You should be downloading the latest version from your account page and upload that, so you won’t need to ‘update’.

Apologies – I meant when I hit “activate” not “update”

Hi,

I’m posting this from another similar topic that seems to apply here too:

From what I found, the [Fatal error: Class ‘EE_Config_Base’ not found] error only happens if it’s an older version of WordPress (in this case 4.6) and the Tickera plugin is activated.

If I activate the Tickera plugin on a site that has the current version of WordPress, no issues with Fatal Errors when I activate Event Espresso 4 there.

So the way forward will be to update your site to the current version of WordPress. If you cannot do that right now, a temporary workaround that might work (it did on my testing site with WP 4.6) will be to deactivate the Tickera plugin until you can update to the current version of WordPress.

So if you have WordPress 4.6, you can update to WordPress 4.7 (or newer) and that should resolve the issues you’re having.

Great – I’ll give that a go.

Any idea how I can log back into my back end as locked out as before?

Rename the event-espresso-core-reg directory to something else, just add -temp to the end.

Now log back into your site and go to Dashboard -> Plugins.

Event Espresso will be de-activated, do not reactivate that version until after you’ve updated to a newer version of WordPress.

I’m an idiot… previously explained – I forgot to refresh file list!

Many thanks for the speedy replies.
